It is the oldest building in the Vértes Mountains, built around 1140 by Archbishop Csák Ugrin of Esztergom. According to the first written record, in 1231 Miklós Csák testified about the fate of the castle. It was a thick-walled structure built of stone, named after the castle, but it was actually a medieval hunting estate and aristocratic residential tower.
